About University of Bradford Sanctuary Scholarship
The University of Bradford is an English public research university in Bradford, West Yorkshire. It was the 40th university to be founded in the United Kingdom when it obtained its royal charter in 1966.
The university’s origins may be traced back to the founding of the Mechanics Institute in the industrial West Yorkshire town of Wakefield in 1832. There are 7,480 undergraduate students and 2,290 postgraduate students at the University of Bradford.
About a third of the undergraduate population is comprised of mature students. Students from more than 110 countries make up 22% of the student body. In 2010, 14,406 people applied to the institution through UCAS, with 3,421 of them being accepted.
The University of Bradford, on the other hand, was the first British university to create a Department of Peace Studies in 1973, which is now the world’s largest university centre for peace and conflict studies.
The University of Bradford’s origins date back to the Mechanics Institute, established in 1832, formed in response to the need in the city for workers with skills related to the workplace.
In 1882, the institute became the Bradford Technical College. Then in 1957, the Bradford Institute of Technology was created as a College of Advanced Technology to take on the running of higher education courses.
The Richmond Building, the largest structure on campus, was completed in 1963. On the opposite side of Richmond Road, the Horton Building and Chesham Building were eventually erected.
The University of Bradford received its Charter of Incorporation in 1966, and Harold Wilson, the then-Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, became the university’s first chancellor.
